Anatomy of a #HappyYouYear: Autumn

We went off on one a couple of weeks ago about how we kind of resent New Years resolutions and are choosing instead to make 2016 a Happy You Year. Of course, it’s very easy to spout inspirational pep talks like that, but it’s hard to imagine what a Happy You Year might really look like. Well, not any more, folks. Community Manager Nicola is here. In the last couple of weeks she’s given us examples of what a Happy You Spring and a Happy You Summer might involve, and today she is imagining how a Happy You Autumn might look:

Autumn

Autumn. Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Also, and much more importantly, season of Halloween costume stress and Pumpkin Spice Lattes. As the new season kicks in and the weather starts to turn a bit chillier I will most likely stop prioritising being outdoors all the time on account of not being a crazy person.

As the nights start drawing in, the weather gets colder, and carbohydrates start to take centre stage in my thoughts, I’ll definitely be looking for more food-based things to do. It might be pasta-making, or another kind of cookery class, or it might be a nice meal out or food truck event. Basically, feed me and I’ll love you forever.

It feels like summer is usually the time for people to make a lot of big changes, so I’m guessing that a few of my friends will have moved around, married themselves off, or stopped talking to me as much because they suddenly seem to prefer spending time with their new babies (Which, frankly, I do not get, as I don’t need my nappy changed even half as much). As such, I might be on the lookout for a few new people to add to my social group and I know exactly where I can look to find them – at social events like a language exchange, talks about subjects that interest me, or even super-fun activities like playground games workshops.  Who knows? Maybe I’ll even try a bit of speed dating.

Since I have so much more time in the house I’m quite likely to get carried away and impulsively decide to start learning a musical instrument. As you very much do. I’ll probably want to try out a few different classes, just to figure out which ones I should be dedicating my inevitable musical career to, so I might have a go at some African drumming, ukulele, or even the spoons. I’m sure my neighbours are already crossing their fingers that I definitely choose the quiet and very subtle African drum.

Halloween will also probably be on my mind. It’s not around for long, but while it’s the season I definitely want to make the most of it. Whether it’s Halloween-themed comedy, movie nights, or full-on parties, I’d like to think I can get to a few events and really make the most of the spooky spirit while it’s still around.

Since Nicola probably won’t want to stick to the same things all year, we’ll be covering a different season each week of January. We already covered Spring and Summer but check back next week to find out how she thinks Winter might go.
