At Oblique we are all about what we call the ‘four key social elements: food, drink, music and most importantly, people. Our brunch parties, residency nights and intimate events are perfect for getting to know new people and trying out the best that London has to offer.
So, we thought we’d share an Oblique experience of one of our favourite areas of town, Fitzrovia.
This gem, swashed between the rubbish end of Oxford Street and UCL’s campus, had always been a destination for Londoners and in the know tourists.
We aren’t just talking about Charlotte Street. In the last year or so, the food and drink on offer in Fitzrovia has caught our attention. New lunch spots like Delancy & Co offering up Salt Beef so good that you could be in the Big Apple, complimented by long standing institutions such as The Fitzroy Tavern and The Charlotte Street Hotel.
The sheer amount of quality bars, restaurants, coffee shops etc. in this relatively small part of town, means that we could be here a while. Here’s our guide to a night out in Fitzrovia:
1. Get to know your wine. Vagabond Wines is a great spot for wine enthusiasts and non enthusiasts alike. It’s a wine shop slash bar where you can buy great bottles to take home or sit and relax, top up your oyster-style card and get trying the 100 wines that are on offer. Wines are available as a sip, glass or of course, bottle. The wines are low to high priced so it’s a great way to taste something you’d never be able to afford by the bottle.
2. Getting peckish? There is almost every kind of cuisine available in this area. If you’re splashing out then Roka is the only way (Brangelina have dined here!) or if you’re on a budget, the pizza at ICCOs is under a fiver and pretty delicious. We love Barnyard with its eclectic menu and chilled atmosphere or Bobo Social for your burger fix.
3. Who doesn’t love a good cocktail. We’d head straight to Oskar’s Bar just round the corner for a lovingly made cocktail. Pick one from their extensive list or have something created especially for you. The place is super cool and the staff are all stars.
4. Take me to Barcelona. Finish your night in the hard to find Spanish dive bar, Sevilla Mia. Expect live music, lots of ‘locals’, cheap beer and a really good time. The best nights always end on the dance floor!
